About Wicked Curious

All those venue calendars. One Thursday email.

Few places have as many museums, labs, libraries, nature centers and theaters within a short drive as the towns around Arlington. Each one posts events on its own website, in its own format, on its own schedule. We read them all so you don't have to.

How it works

  1. We read the calendars

Official feeds first, web pages when there's no feed. We follow each site's rules for automated visitors.

  2. We sort and check

Topic, ages, price and place. Every venue is confirmed to be in the right Massachusetts town; Arlington, Virginia need not apply.

  3. You pick what fits

Filter the events page, or save a feed and get it by email every week and in your calendar.

  4. You go

Every listing links to the venue's own page for tickets, registration and the fine print.

What we promise

Fewer exclamation points than our mascot. More care than you'd expect from a free email.

  • Source first

Every listing names its source and links back to it.

  • Our words, their facts

We write short summaries and never copy the venue's description or photos.

  • Checked every week

A human spot-checks listings against their sources.

  • Accessibility as reported

We pass on what venues say, and say that's where it came from.

  • Your data stays yours

Name, email and your filters. Never sold, never shared, no ad trackers. Privacy policy.

  • Easy to leave

One-click unsubscribe. Delete your account anytime.

Where we look

  • Arlington
  • Belmont
  • Cambridge
  • Lexington
  • Winchester

Plus venues in Boston, Concord, Lincoln, Medford, Newton, Somerville, Stoneham and Waltham, because the good stuff doesn't stop at the town line.

Spotted a mistake as a parent? Same address. We're grateful, not defensive.

Our robot

Our crawler identifies itself as WickedCuriousBot. It reads public event calendars and pages, follows each site's robots.txt, and makes at most one request every five seconds to any site. It doesn't log in, fill in forms or download images.

To have your site left out or to ask a question, email hello@wickedcurio.us. We act on opt-out requests within five business days, and adding Disallow rules for WickedCuriousBot to your robots.txt works too.

WICKED CURIOUS CURIOUS SINCE 1635

Why "since 1635"?

That's when settlers arrived in Menotomy, today's Arlington. People here have been asking "but why?" ever since. We just send the answers on Thursdays.
